Using the data provided and community input, we have envisioned the revitalization of the Thousand Block of Ford City in hopes that it will regain its initial vigour. Revitalizing The Block into a community and business hub will be made possible through multi-stakeholder collaboration. We envision the block lined with restaurants cafes, boutiques and businesses. The streetscape will vary throughout the year from bustling patios surrounded by lush greenery to businesses decorated for the holidays and visitors skating on a lively skating rink.
ABOUT

FORD CITY
Present and Future
Ford City was founded in 1884 by a French parish named Notre Dame du Lac on land donated by a man named Francois Drouillard. In 1904 the Ford Motor Company of Canada came to the area. The surrounding areas began to grow both economically and in popularity. During World War II, the Ford Motor Company thrived by producing heavy trucks for European theatre. With the end of the war came unrested labour and a major strike stilled the auto plant for the legendary ’99 Days’ in 1945. With this, the Ford head office and assembly plant had moved to Oakville, near Toronto, and populations dispersed. Today, very little is left of the city that Ford built.
